To me it absolutely does! Studies find that women in the US are more likely to have a college degree than a man. Many women are choosing to work rather than stay home with kids. I happen to know first hand what that is like. For years, I had a good paying job and made a decent salary.

I once dated a guy who made less money than me and because I loved him and wanna do things with him, I would try to subtly contribute more, trying not to hurt his ego. I would let him pay all the cheap things like dinner, etc, which we did more in frequency and it would feel like he was paying all the time. I would take care of the bigger things like hotel bookings for holiday, or made plans and took care of the bill and made it like a surprise gift for whatever reason I could think of.
