Daly "Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote - The droughte of March hath perced to the roote, And bathed every veyne in swich licour Of which vertu ungendred is the flour;" - from The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, "Our years are turned upside down; our summers are no summers; our harvests are no harvests! In their previous report , the IPCC illustrated their, then, understanding of how global climate had changed, not just during the previous 95 years, but also the past 1, years. In so doing they presented this graph Fig 1. Historical records from all over Europe, and Greenland attest to the reality of both events, and their profound impact on human society.

The Hockey Stick: A New Low in Climate Science
These are K-Ar data obtained on glauconite, a potassium-bearing clay mineral that forms in some marine sediment. Woodmorappe fails to mention, however, that these data were obtained as part of a controlled experiment to test, on samples of known age, the applicability of the K-Ar method to glauconite and to illite, another clay mineral. He also neglects to mention that most of the 89 K-Ar ages reported in their study agree very well with the expected ages. Evernden and others 43 found that these clay minerals are extremely susceptible to argon loss when heated even slightly, such as occurs when sedimentary rocks are deeply buried. As a result, glauconite is used for dating only with extreme caution.

Muller began his career as a graduate student under Nobel laureate Luis Alvarez performing particle physics experiments and working with bubble chambers. During his early years he also helped to co-create accelerator mass spectrometry and made some of the first measurements of anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background. Subsequently, Muller branched out into other areas of science, and in particular the Earth sciences.
On the wet sand right this does not happen. The Egyptians moistened the sand over which the sledge moved. By using the right quantity of water they could halve the number of workers needed.
