Calculating the MMR[ edit edit source ] An individual player's Matchmaking Rating MMR is primarily determined by the amount of games that player wins versus how many the player loses. When you win a game, your MMR goes up, while the opposite is true for when you lose. If on the other hand your team lost the game, but you performed very well you would receive a positive PA, but you would still lose MMR overal. Therefore winning or losing a game is the most important factor of the system. The algorithm that determines your performance uses 20 different factors, among them siege damage, hero damage, KDA, EXP soakes, CC time but also many others that are not publicly known.

Jul 14 Views: Heroes of the Storm is a really fun game. In a previous article, I even wrote about why I think it is better than League of Legends. The game was only released about a month ago so it is still very new and not without its fair share of problems. That is to be expected of any newly released online game, especially MOBAs. But there is one particularly egregious issue with Heroes of the Storm that is literally threatening to kill the game off and that is its shoddy matchmaking. The matchmaking system in this game is broken.

Matchmaking in Quick Match[ edit edit source ] The main purpose of Quick Match is that you have a guaranteed character selection, and matches that start as soon as possible. This is something the Draft Mode cannot offer. Quick Match is a place where you can try things out that may not always be optimal for what you would normally choose in a Ranked game. If you and your friends queue up as 4 Supports and 1 Warrior at 2am, it can make things more complicated. You may have a solid comp for a map like Cursed Hollow but if you end up on Braxis with a sub-optimal top laner you're potentially looking at an uphill battle.
The matchmaking system to date has been very unreliable and frustrating to the player base. Team compositions have been all over the board from landslide victories to unreasonable team builds. Minor changes have been made to group party size restrictions and Hero stats adjustments.
