Since the beginning the option for a Graduate Program in Social Sciences integrating Anthropology, Politics and Sociology, guided teaching and researching practices in an interdisciplinary sense, and later in transdisciplinary strands. Due to four decades of expertise, the amount of its researchers, the variety of its academic backgrounds, and the large number of graduate students — coming from all over the country through partnerships with established and ongoing programs MINTERs and DINTERs —, one can assume that such a variety of the program's intellectual orientations disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary does not mean dispersion but debate and permanent enrichment, expressed in teaching and learning production carried out by PEPG. The PEPG has embodied the habitus of operating intellectually outside in and inside out the Social Sciences consistently in contact with Philosophy, History, Communications, Health, Arts and Literature, Urban Planning, Science of Religion, and with the vertical studies of Ethnology, Sociology or Political Science, always cultivating the objective of leading a living articulation with the city and its demands. To produce an interested knowledge and — in certain cases and contexts, not to reject any forms of activism —, the Program still clings to tradition, a striking feature both in classical authors and in contemporary trends.

The Science of Religion is a field of knowledge that embraces religion, systematically investigating all its manifestations, and without questioning its theological validity.
